Summer Reading Program Schedule

Our Summer Reading Program for children through eighth grade is set to kick off with signups, beginning on Thursday, June 26th.

The program will run through August 27th.

Children who register will receive a reading chart. The chart will be used to earn small prizes as well as tickets to enter into a drawing for our grand prizes. These prizes, courtesy of the Friends of the Dalton Public Library, include Scientific Explorer experiment kits and Creativity For Kids art kits. All prizes will be on display at the Library.

Along with the traditional reading charts, we’ll have a number of ongoing programs for various age groups. We understand summer is a busy time, so these programs are designed for children to attend as many or as few times as possible.

These programs are:

STEAM: An educational program focusing on integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. Students will hear a story, receive a snack, and work on a project.

Tuesdays, July 8th – August 7th, from 10:00-11:00
Children ages 3-6
Led by Wendy Provencher, Coordinator, Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Programs, and Kathy Hoag, Asst. Librarian

GAME DAY: Games will be provided for all day fun. Board games, card games, puzzles, and more! Feel free to bring games from home to share.

Wednesdays, July 9th – August 27th, from 12:00-4:00
Children of all ages

WRITER’S WORKSHOP: “When we speak, our words float away…When we write, they’re here to stay!” Explore the joy of Fiction Writing, Narrative Writing, Poetry, and Writing about Reading in a relaxed and fun setting. We’ll read, we’ll talk, and most importantly…we’ll write!

Wednesdays, July 16th – August 20th, from 1:00-2:00
Children ages 7-10
Led by Sarah DiFazio, Speech & Language Pathologist / 2nd Grade Teacher

PRESCHOOL STORYTIME: Stories, Snacks and Crafts

Thursdays, July 10th – August 7th. From 10:00-11:00
Children ages 0-5 years
Led by Wendy Provencher, Coordinator, Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Programs, and Kathy Hoag, Asst. Librarian

We’ll also have some surprises along the way!
