HELP WANTED: PART TIME LIBRARY PAGE

HOURS:
Mondays, 3:00-8:00; Tuesdays 1:00-4:00; Friday 3:00-5:30; every other Saturday, 10:00-2:00.

Applications available at the Library Circulation Desk and the Town Hall.

Applications are due back by 5:30 on Friday, 9/19. They may be turned in to the Town Hall or Library.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Library Page shelves materials and keeps them in proper order, pulls hold requests for the inter-library loan system, answers patron questions about location of materials and services offered at the Dalton Free Public Library.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Library Page re-shelves books returned to the library by patrons or through the inter-library loan system in the adult and children’s areas. Using the Dewey Decimal system for non-fiction items and an alphabetical system for fiction, books on compact disc, and DVDs, the Library Page will keep things in proper order. When re-shelving is completed the Page is requested to “read” and re-organize the book shelves if necessary.

Working with a “pull holds request” report, the Library Page will collect items to be set in transit to other libraries. The Page is responsible for organizing the materials in the bins and preparing them for shipment.

The Library Page is also asked to prepare signage, arrange displays, and report any areas of the library that may require repair or upkeep to the Library Director.

SUPERVISION:
Works under the general direction of the Library Director and Assistant Director. The employee works in accordance with approved policies; duties require exercise of some independent judgment to establish priorities; unusual situations are referred to the Library Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in typical library conditions with considerable public interaction; regular schedule includes evening work and some Saturdays.

The employee operates standard office equipment.

The employee has regular contact with the general public.
